I am the darkness,
that accompanies a new moon.

I am the burnt out street lights,
leaving no light to guide you home.

I am the faint sound of footsteps,
behind you.

I am the uneasy feeling that you are being followed,
stalked.

I am the footsteps getting louder,
closer.

I am your heartbeat,
picking up speed.

I am your mind racing,
racing in fear.

I am realization,
of what’s going on.

You are being hunted.

I am your feet pounding on the pavement,
as you run for your life.

I am the blood,
pounding in your ears.

I am the adrenaline,
pushing you faster,
but not fast enough…

You are cornered,
trapped with no escape.

I am the glint in the hunter’s eyes,
as he takes a step closer.

I am the goose bumps on your neck,
the shiver up your spine.

I am his hand,
brushing your cheek.

I am your scream,
cutting into the silent night.

I am his hand,
clamping over you mouth.

I am the echo your scream left behind
not nearly loud enough.

I am the courage you find buried deep inside,
as you kick him in the gut.

I am his groan as he falls to the pavement,
giving you hope,
hope of escape.

You are running away,
escaping.

I am the crippling devastation that hits you as he grabs your ankle,
and pulls you down with him.

I am the pavement,
scraping your hands.

I am the glint of something silver and sharp,
in the hunter’s right hand.

I am fear,
clenching your stomach.

I am his insane smile,
that makes your blood run cold.

I am the knife,
driving into your body again…
and again…
and again…

I am pain,
pure and simple.

I am your blood,
pooling all around you.

I am his maniacal laugh,
as he leaves you to bleed.

I am the fuzziness,
that starts to take over.

I am the unavoidable truth,

You are dying.

I am the cold rain that begins to fall,
mixing with your blood,

I am your wishes,
your dreams,
your world,
falling apart.

I am your final breath.

I am the darkness closing in.

I am you eyes fluttering closed,
for the very final time.
